Major Services

Facilities that have been used for many years since the opening to traffic are subject to damage by natural environment and traffic loads. Therefore, we will inspect and diagnose such facilities for sustainable use.

Furthermore, if major defects, damage, and deterioration affecting the structure are detected, we will conduct an in-depth investigation required for repair design.

Inspection and Investigation of Road and River Facilities

In accordance with the inspection manuals developed for each type of facility, we will inspect the facilities to check the soundness thereof about once every five years. Inspection results will be disclosed to the public and used as fundamental data for facility maintenance and management.

We will carry out an in-depth investigation for repair and rehabilitation when structurally serious defects, damage, and deterioration are detected.

Inspection and Investigation of Ground Anchors used on Man-Made Slopes

Road construction in a limited Right-of-Way or in a mountainous terrain may require earth cutting with steep grades using ground anchors to reduce the adverse effects to surrounding area.

A large force is exerted constantly on a ground anchor to prevent the collapse of the ground. It is therefore necessary to inspect the ground anchor periodically to ensure safety.

If defects, damage, and deterioration are detected, we will perform an in-depth investigation of the ground anchor itself and the entire slope.

Repair & Strengthening Design

The damaged facilities will need a proper treatment to ensure safe use thereof for the future.

We carry out the design to improve the functions, including repair of deteriorated facilities, strengthening of structures subjected to heavy traffic, and seismic retrofitting in preparation for large-scale earthquakes.

Bridge & Road Structure Repair Design

Bridges and road structures made of cement concrete and/or structural steel are likely to deteriorate with time or be damaged over the course of many years in service. In order to keep these social infrastructures in service safely over the long term, appropriate repairs must be carried out.

In repair design, we will plan and design the appropriate solutions based on the results of the inspection and investigation.

Rehabilitation & Strengthening Design of Bridges, Roads and River Structures

Standards and guidelines for design of bridges, roads, and river structures have been updated frequently. Therefore, in some cases, it may be difficult to use these facilities due to high social demands. In such cases, it is necessary to upgrade these facilities as needed, such as increasing the load-carrying capacity, widening the road width, or strengthening the structures.

We will then implement the necessary rehabilitation and strengthening design of each structure to accurately respond to the required needs.

Bridge Seismic Retrofitting Design
橋梁耐震補強設計

Every time bridges are hit by a major earthquake, the seismic performance level required by new findings will increase. 

The bridges constructed in accordance with the previous standards and guidelines need to be seismically strengthened to ensure safe and sustainable use for an extended period of time. We verify the present seismic performance level of each existing bridge and carry out seismic retrofitting design to meet the latest seismic requirements.

We plan a feasible time schedule of inspection and diagnosis, design, and repair, strengthening, and reconstruction to ensure efficient and effective implementation of maintenance projects within a limited budget.

When a new issue that has never been seen in the past arises, we will study how to deal with it and develop a manual.

Road and River Facilities Life-Extending Repair Plan

Many of the facilities in service today have already been more than 50 years old. The proper maintenance and management of these facilities will require a huge amount of costs. However, we have financial constraints.

Therefore, we prepare a life-extending repair plan for these facilities, including the prediction of future deterioration with time and implementation of necessary measures at the most effective time so that the life-cycle costs can be minimized.

Study of Maintenance and Management Method, Manual Preparation

With the shortage of financial and human resources, the conventional infrastructure management system will not be able to secure maintaining the facilities in sound conditions. In addition, new issues have risen due to disasters that have not been experienced in the past. We then develop the manuals that enable us to respond to these issues based on analysis and studies.
